As an Erasmus or exchange student you can expect a diverse range of courses offered with courses taught in English and German, a vibrant campus, and plenty of opportunities to connect with students from all over the world.

Of particular interest to exchange students:
- Lectures in required courses: Introduction to Private Law, Criminal Law, Public Law, and foundational courses (e.g., History of Law).
- Foreign Languages / Key Competencies: English-language courses and the Comparative Law workshop—ideal for Erasmus students.
When choosing your courses, it’s not just the subject matter that matters, but also the type of course. In a German law program, there are various types of courses that differ in structure, objectives, and examination format.
In lectures, a lecturer usually explains the material to a large group.
Study groups complement lectures and offer the opportunity to discuss case studies and ask questions in smaller groups. They are particularly helpful for interacting with German students. Please let us know which study group best fits your class schedule. We will then perform registration for it.
Tutorials are designed to help international students, in particular, get started and understand the lectures. They are optional but highly recommended. No European Credit Transfer System credits or SWS can be earned for tutorials.
A special program for ERASMUS+, LL.M., and cooperation students. In mixed-nationality groups, students explore and present legal topics from two national perspectives. The course concludes with a presentation. Students may optionally submit a term paper to earn additional ECTS credits.
Very challenging courses for advanced students designed to prepare them for the state examination. Enrollment is recommended only for students with a very good command of German. Both courses are very time-consuming and require a comprehensive term paper at the end of the semester.
Most courses are taught in German. However, there are also English-language courses, and many exchange students take only those.
Please note: If you take only English-language courses, you must take at least one German language course .
